Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the collection, preparation, and analysis of clinical specimens, ensuring proper disposal of clinical waste. You will be tasked with entering patient-related data into the Laboratory Information System or other manual systems, and handling reception duties, including responding to telephone inquiries from various departments and external organizations.

In this role, you will assist the Biomedical Scientist in delivering laboratory services, conducting specific laboratory tests with guidance from senior staff. In pathology-related positions, you will also manage the receipt, storage, and release of deceased patients from the mortuary.

Additionally, you will play a key role in training new or less experienced team members.

Key Qualifications

  • Essential: Standard Grade English and a Science Subject
  • A solid understanding of Biomedical Science
  • Preferred: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology (training will be provided)
  • Extended supervised training for a minimum of one year, equivalent to National Vocational Qualification Level 3
  • High awareness of Infection Control Policies and Procedures
  • Proficient keyboard skills
  • Essential manual dexterity
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development through relevant meetings and courses
  • Flexibility in work approach

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Arithmetic standard grade or equivalent
  • HNC in applied sciences
  • Previous laboratory experience
  • Beneficial: Prior experience in an NHS laboratory setting
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in oral, written, and presentation formats
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Capability to perform under pressure

Employment Details

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 37 hours per week.

Work Environment

The role will be situated within the microbiology department.

The working schedule includes days, late shifts, and weekends, with specific days to be discussed during the interview process.
