Position Overview

The position entails the collection and preparation of clinical samples for testing, as well as the safe disposal of medical waste. You will be responsible for entering patient-related data into the Laboratory Information System or other manual record-keeping systems. Additionally, you will handle reception duties, responding to inquiries from staff across various departments and external organizations.

Your role will support the Biomedical Scientist in delivering laboratory services, performing designated laboratory tests with senior personnel available for guidance. Positions within pathology will include the receipt, storage, and release of deceased individuals from the mortuary.

Moreover, you will assist in training new or less experienced colleagues.

Key Qualifications
  • Standard Grade English and a Science Subject are essential.
  • A solid understanding of Biomedical Science is required.

  • Extended supervised training for a minimum of one year is necessary due to the extensive range of responsibilities, equivalent to National Vocational Qualification Level 3.
  • High awareness of Infection Control Policies and Procedures is crucial.
  • Proficient keyboard skills are required.
  • Manual dexterity is essential.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development through participation in relevant meetings and training sessions.
  • Flexibility in work approach is important.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Arithmetic standard grade or equivalent.
  • HNC in applied sciences.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience within an NHS laboratory would be beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in oral, written, and presentation formats.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Capability to perform under pressure.
Contract Details

This is a fixed-term position for a duration of 6 months.

Part-time hours: 7.4 hours per week.

Please note that this is a part-time role, and the salary will be pro-rata.

Work Environment

The position will be situated within the microbiology department.

The working hours for this role will be during the backshift, specifically from 4:15 PM to 8:00 PM.
