About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead FPGA/Firmware Engineer to join our team at Leonardo, a leading player in the defence industry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering complex digital systems that meet challenging customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of firmware for complex digital systems, working closely with experts in the field.
  • Use world-class facilities to design and develop firmware that meets customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance processes and ways of working across UK-wide FPGA/Firmware delivery teams.
  • Develop and implement team leading experience to support the delivery of work from several engineers.
  • Derive detailed FPGA/Firmware requirements and architecture from system requirements.
  • Apply a structured approach to FPGA/firmware design, adhering to industry standards such as RTCA DO-254.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in FPGA/Firmware development, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cryptography.
Requirements
  • 5 years UK residency and ability to achieve full SC security clearance.
  • Experience leading teams or managing packages of work.
  • Design tools such as Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, System Verilog, and UVM.
  • FPGA architectures such as Xilinx 7, Xilinx UltraScale, Intel (Altera), or Microsemi (Actel).
  • Fast interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, and JESD.
  • Auto-generated code using model-driven engineering with Matlab and Simulink tools.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working in mixed discipline teams.
  • HNC/HND or Undergraduate Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Games Programming, Physics, or Applied Physics.
