About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Dispenser to join our team at Eastgate Medical Group. As a Dispenser, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services, working closely with our clinical team to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process prescriptions accurately and efficiently, ensuring all medication is linked to a diagnosis and verified with doctors and/or nurse prescribers as necessary.
  • Dispense medication in accordance with prescriptions authorized using the bar code scanning system, ensuring that payment is taken for all medicines dispensed and verifying information for exemption or pre-payment certificates.
  • Order and dispense Controlled Drugs in strict accordance with regulations, and order stocks of bottles, bags, labels, and other consumables as required.
  • Check goods received against delivery notes and put away stock using the bar code scanning system, and price prescriptions and perform month-end processing for the Prescription Pricing Authority.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical records, ensure handovers to staff are conducted efficiently and comprehensively, and maintain a clean and tidy workstation.
  • Follow practice policies and guidelines in terms of health and safety, risk management, IT security, and code of connectivity, and undertake training and CPD relating to the role of Dispenser and mandatory and advisory training relating to work in primary care.
  • At all times observe the strict rules of confidentiality.

Person Specification

  • GCSE English and Maths A* - C or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Buttercups Dispensing Assistant course or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing role.
  • Experience of working in a GP practice or primary care, with knowledge of medical terminology and drug names.
  • Information Governance knowledge and experience of working with EMIS Web.
  • Ability to work under pressure, as a team player, with minimum supervision, and with good communication skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and sound IT knowledge.
