Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Medical Lead Consultant Psychiatrist, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing senior clinical guidance to various sites on medical issues and clinical strategies.
  • Engaging in the formulation and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Driving initiatives related to quality enhancement and clinical governance.
  • Overseeing medical management, supervising fellow medical professionals, and participating in recruitment processes.
  • Representing the region within Elysium's clinical governance frameworks.
  • Acting as the Responsible Clinician for an inpatient caseload.
  • Facilitating collaboration across multiple disciplines, agencies, and partnerships.
  • Implementing the Mental Health Act and coordinating with the Ministry of Justice when necessary.
  • Leading clinical governance meetings and contributing to service development alongside the Hospital Director.

There is a structured on-call system in place. The successful candidate will be part of the second tier on-call team as the duty Responsible Clinician. This role includes providing coverage for other medical staff during their absences, with reciprocal arrangements in place.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To excel in this position, you will need:
  • An MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Section 12(2) approval to practice in England and Approved Clinician status.
  • Previous experience in medical leadership is preferred.
