Specialist Optometrist Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Optometrist to join our team at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on a part-time fixed-term basis.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking specialist clinical activity, including:

  • Providing clinical opinions and support to optometric and non-optometric colleagues
  • Working in an extended role capacity in various ophthalmology clinics, including Medical Retina, Glaucoma, Cataract, and External Disease
  • Refraction, including adult and paediatric cases, diagnostic and post-operative
  • Medical Contact Lenses and Low Vision Clinics, adult and paediatric
  • Supervising junior staff in their clinical roles
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • GOC registration
  • Competent use of a slit-lamp to examine the anterior and posterior eye with specialist lenses
  • Competent performance of retinoscopy
  • Ability to analyse and interpret ocular imaging, e.g., OCT, visual fields, topography to an advanced clinical level
  • Ability to identify service improvement needs and sensitively communicate complex information in a range of situations
Experience and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Post-qualification Hospital experience of over 3 years
  • Experience of examining vulnerable groups of patients, e.g., CYP / additional needs
  • Hospital extended role experience and Community shared care experience
  • Experience with clinical teaching and audit/research
  • Experience of dealing with quality and safety issues, e.g., complaints, incidents, risk assessment
Salary and Contract Details

The salary for this role is £48,888 to £54,882.90 per annum, pro rata'd as part-time, including HCAS.

The contract is fixed-term for 12 months, with a part-time working pattern.
