About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Mentor to join our team at Evolve Housing + Support. As a Support Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting vulnerable young people to improve their independent living skills and achieve their goals and aspirations.

Our customers have a range of support needs, and we use the Recovery Model to empower them to make decisions about their support. You will work closely with our customers to identify their strengths and skills, and help them to access opportunities and develop new skills.

As a Support Mentor, you will be responsible for supporting customers with immigration applications, accessing support for substance abuse, and engaging in therapeutic activities such as art workshops and gardening. You will also work with local agencies and specialist support services to provide comprehensive support to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support customers to develop life and independent living skills, including building self-esteem, fostering positive relationships, cooking, and budgeting
  • Work with customers to access education, training, or employment opportunities, including signposting to education, courses, apprenticeships, and paid work
  • Network and build relationships with other agencies and support services to provide comprehensive support to customers
  • Support customers to access benefits, housing, and education, and help them to navigate complex systems
  • Work with customers to develop a support plan that meets their individual needs and goals

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and how it applies in day-to-day work
  • Understanding of the reasons why people become homeless and the needs and challenges they face
  • Knowledge of statutory and voluntary resources available to homeless people
  • Ability to work shifts on a pre-planned rolling rota, including mornings, evenings, and weekends
