The Senior Engineer is a key member of our team at SSA Recruitment, responsible for overseeing the site engineering team and ensuring the successful delivery of specific project sections. We are seeking a highly experienced professional with a proven track record in managing multidisciplinary projects of £5-£20 million in value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Site Manager and deputise for short periods when the Site Manager is unavailable.
  • Implement high standards for safety, quality, and environmental management, including method statement briefings, site-specific inductions, and associated paperwork.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and record any service damage.
  • Produce and monitor detailed contract programmes in line with Planning Standards, including 2-weekly, 4-weekly, and as-built programmes.
  • Develop and maintain good knowledge of construction outputs.
  • Write and/or review detailed complex method statements.
  • Manage parts of the cost plan and assist in the procurement of sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Deputise for the Site Manager and chair meetings with customers, designers, sub-contractors, suppliers, and third parties.
  • Manage contractual letters and correspondence.
  • Develop and implement HSEQ management plans.
  • Set up and manage office administration systems.
  • Order and manage the installation of site IT systems.
  • Perform the role of Temporary Works Coordinator and/or Crane Coordinator.
  • Develop programmes to completion and in line with project targets, either by location or work type, depending on the project type.
  • Produce realistically resourced reconstruction programmes, fully logic-linked, showing critical path activities, quantities, and outputs, key dates, procurement details, statutory authorities, method statement production, and approvals.
  • Allocate small sections of the programme to engineering staff for them to manually produce detailed programmes showing daily targets and support them in preparation.
  • Prepare fortnightly construction programmes drawn from the master section programme.
  • Be aware of financial targets for the section of works and have regular update meetings with the commercial team to review costs.
  • Be aware of individual activity costs and those activities that are make or break financially.
  • Involves sub-contractors in the planning process and incorporates their detailed plans into the section plan.
  • Enrols the section team in the overall plan and encourages ownership and involvement by all team members.
  • Coordinates operationally with other section leaders.
  • Monitors the section plan, updates progress, and feeds back to the Agent/Project Manager and section team.
  • Updates the plan weekly with as-built information, events (Si's, CVI's, errors) that affect progress.
  • Reviews future critical activities.
  • Reviews progress on long-lead-in activities (procurement, design, delivery, stats, manufacture, etc.).
  • Reviews paperwork, method statements, permits, licenses, etc. are in place for planned work.
  • Regular planning meetings with the team to debrief previous work, review future work, and discuss what-ifs.
  • Reviews meetings with the Project Manager/Agent and QS to discuss events that have caused delay and/or disruption.
