The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) plays a pivotal role in supporting the Medical Director in providing strategic leadership and direction for Medical and Dental colleagues' clinical and professional behavior.

This position has delegated authority from the Medical Director and serves as the named Responsible Officer for the organisation, with a key focus on General Medical Council (GMC) revalidation, Consultant Appraisal, and 360-degree feedback.

As a Responsible Officer, this individual contributes significantly to improving the quality and safety of patient care through their statutory duties, which encompass:

  1. Evaluating the fitness to practice of doctors (regulatory functions)
  2. Monitoring conduct and performance through clinical governance functions.

The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) is also the Trust's Job Planning and E-Rostering Champion, driving the effective planning and deployment of the workforce through the integration of job planning and E-Rostering software.

This role requires the individual to be a strong advocate for the NNUH Vision and values, consistently demonstrating leadership and role modeling behaviors that promote a culture of excellence and compassion.

Main Responsibilities

The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) is responsible for:

  1. Providing professional, inclusive, and compassionate leadership for Medical and Dental staff across the Trust, through effective role modeling and professional development activities.
  2. Acting as the mandatory training champion for Medical and Dental staff, supporting leadership development programs, and succession planning.
  3. Collaborating with Human Resources to harmonize Medical workforce guidelines and practice across all three acute providers.
  4. Contributing to the improvement of Medical leadership and management training.
  5. Actively promoting diversity, including race and gender diversity, in the delivery of Medical and Dental services, and the recruitment, management, and development of Medical and Dental staff.
  6. Fostering effective relationships with University Medical and Dental Schools to provide a supportive and effective teaching environment.
  7. Contributing to the development of effective working relationships with education providers and other professional bodies to ensure alignment between service and training needs.
  8. Representing the organisation at regional and national levels on professional Medical, Dental, and corporate issues, developing partnerships, sharing best practice, and integrating knowledge within the Trust.
