Job Title: Safeguarding Lead

Protocol National Limited is seeking a dedicated Safeguarding Lead to provide support to all learners at our institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective provision of welfare and pastoral care, signposting to appropriate external support, and promoting a positive culture of information sharing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with staff and managers on issues and concerns that impact learner wellbeing, suggesting improvements and prioritizing tasks.
  • Work proactively with young people to provide reinforcement of effective learning and good behavior.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date documentation of learners relating to pastoral care and wellbeing, and safeguarding reporting.
  • Respond to problems with learners that arise during the day, disturbing the learning of others.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure learners achieve outstanding attendance and punctuality, maximizing opportunities for learning.
  • Provide additional support to potentially vulnerable learners, such as those with special needs or disabilities.
  • Liaise and meet with parents/carers as necessary to support learners.
  • Work with the Quality Manager to review and update policies and procedures relating to learner wellbeing, including evaluation and monitoring systems.
  • Spearhead the annual review and update of Safeguarding policies and procedures, deputizing as necessary to ensure all matters relating to safeguarding are identified and acted on appropriately.
  • Engage with learners about their experience of pastoral support, providing feedback to the Quality Manager.
  • Compile and collate evaluation data for strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of actions taken following concerns raised around learner welfare and safeguarding.
  • Work with Admissions, MIS Finance, and other teams to provide information as required to stakeholders, coordinating responses and ensuring communication between parties.
  • Support the collection of destination data to ensure the college has a good understanding of the impact of qualifications on future life chances for learners.

Training and Availability:

  • The designated safeguarding lead should undergo training to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to carry out the role, updating every two years and refreshing training at regular intervals.
  • Ensure each member of staff has access to and understands the school's or college's child protection policy and procedures, especially new and part-time staff.
  • Ensure all staff are fully trained in safeguarding and know how to spot and raise concerns.
  • Encourage a culture of listening to learners and taking account of their wishes and feelings among all staff, in any measures the school or college may put in place to protect them.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a safeguarding role.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Lead qualification.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Adults qualification.
