A highly sought-after opportunity has arisen for a skilled Senior Buyer to join the Buying team of a leading fruit supplier for the UK's premier supermarket.

This key appointment will involve extensive international travel and require the successful candidate to have previous fresh produce buying experience, ideally in fruit or exotic products.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Source, negotiate, and place orders from a given country of responsibility, ensuring timely delivery and optimal pricing.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with agents, shippers, and other stakeholders to drive business growth.
  • Gain a detailed understanding of the regional industry, customer base, and competitors to inform strategic decisions.
  • Stay up-to-date with cultural, economic, and environmental factors that may impact the business.
  • Conduct thorough stock analysis, communicate product availability, and negotiate rates with service providers.
  • Assess financial risks in product categories and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Forecast, monitor, and grow profitability in assigned products.
  • Represent the company confidently within the global market, promoting its interests and values.
  • Plan and coordinate forthcoming seasons' requirements, ensuring a seamless supply chain.

  • Demonstrate a smart and professional appearance at all times.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and negotiating skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in a second language is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Be prepared to work with a variety of nationalities and adapt to different cultural contexts.
  • Display numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Be a competent team player, with a strong sense of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Exhibit confidence, reliability, self-motivation, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent IT skills, with proficiency in relevant software and systems.
  • Have experience in a comparable role, with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
