Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Manager to join our Nuclear Material Control team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing a team of Nuclear Material Control Officers and ensuring the accurate control of nuclear material, sources, and non-fissile material.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of nuclear material accountancy and safeguards, as well as excellent stakeholder management and team leadership skills. You will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in matters relating to nuclear material accountancy and safeguards, and will work closely with our project teams, site functions, and statutory regulators to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Nuclear Material Control Officers to ensure accurate control of nuclear material, sources, and non-fissile material.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in matters relating to nuclear material accountancy and safeguards.
  • Work closely with project teams, site functions, and statutory regulators to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Authorise and control all receipts and dispatches of nuclear material to and from the Windscale Laboratory.
  • Produce regulatory reports to meet compliance against UK Safeguards Regulation.
  • Responsible for authorising and controlling movement of nuclear material within the Windscale & Central Laboratory.
  • Investigate and prepare technical reports with conclusions and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Provide information and support to stakeholders and regulators on Nuclear Material Accountancy Control and Safeguards technical issues.

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong understanding of nuclear material accountancy and safeguards.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and team leadership skills.
  • Proven record of managing or supervising high-performing teams.
  • Ability to handle manual and computer data accurately with attention to detail.
  • Numerate with attention to detail and the ability to problem-solve, innovate, and provide practical solutions.
  • High levels of drive, energy, resilience, and integrity.
  • Logical and methodical approach to data processing and analysis.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
