Infrastructure Automation Specialist

Bradford, Bradford, United Kingdom Yorkshire Building Society Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for an Infrastructure Automation Specialist to become a vital member of our Solutions Delivery team within IT & Transformation. This team is dedicated to enhancing platforms, tools, and applications in both delivery and operational environments, collaborating closely with our engineering teams to facilitate improvements and support our financial services.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing for a combination of remote work and occasional onsite collaboration.

Role Responsibilities

As an Infrastructure Automation Specialist, you will engage in hands-on engineering tasks aimed at addressing challenges that enhance key performance indicators in DevOps: lead-time, deployment frequency, mean-time-to-recover, and change-failure-rate within your teams. Your contributions will include the following:

  • Monitoring & Alerting: Continuously improving systems to enhance Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Recover (MTTR).
  • Automating Release Management: Streamlining Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes, integrating and automating non-functional testing to boost deployment frequency and reduce lead time.
  • Monitoring Error Budgets: Overseeing Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and identifying necessary actions to maintain them. Proactively identifying service hotspots and trends, and proposing strategies for enhancement.
  • Operational Support: Participating in production support rotations alongside development engineers, contributing to constructive post-incident reviews and implementing root cause solutions.
  • Automating Repetitive Tasks: Eliminating manual processes required for product operation.
  • Security Integration Advocate: Automating and incorporating security assessments into the deployment pipeline and managing vulnerabilities.
  • Assurance & Oversight: The independence of this role allows for undertaking tasks requiring segregation, such as final production deployments, while ensuring release quality oversight.

Candidate Profile

What qualifications and experience will you bring to this position?

  • A background in software development or platform engineering.
  • Familiarity with or experience in digital transformation initiatives.
  • Proficiency in various technical skills, including but not limited to: Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash), modern monitoring practices using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace, as well as knowledge of networking and routing.
  • A proven history of continuous improvement, demonstrating the ability to challenge and develop both personal and team capabilities.
  • Understanding of Agile and DevOps software development methodologies.
