Job Description

Job Title: Chemistry Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemistry Laboratory Technician to join our team at Trafford Council. As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science education to our students.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities to support the chemistry curriculum.
  • Provide technical advice and support to teaching staff and other colleagues on health and safety issues.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment by actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring, and review of health and safety procedures and information resources.
  • Ensure the safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances, and respond to actual or potential hazards.
  • Organize and maintain efficient storage systems for equipment and materials.
  • Prepare and provide equipment for lessons, prepare laboratory solutions, and assist with completing and collating statistical returns.
  • Assist with the maintenance of Science Department administration systems and perform reprographic work as required.

Organizational Relationships:

As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible to the Curriculum Leader or other appropriate supervisor, but will work to the requirements of individual teachers on a day-to-day basis.

Health and Safety:

All employees are responsible for compliance with safety rules and procedures, taking reasonable care of their own health and safety, and avoiding injury to themselves and others.

Other Duties:

  • Ensure that all school policies are adhered to and consistently implemented.
  • Interact appropriately and professionally with teachers, colleagues, and parent/carers.
  • Ensure all areas of the school are maintained to a very high standard.
  • Manage own workload, regularly reviewing own practice, setting personal targets, and taking responsibility for own personal development.
  • Prioritize and manage time, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Contribute to the sharing of effective practice by working in partnership with other schools and third parties.
