Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity is available at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust for a motivated and skilled Emergency Medicine Consultant. This role offers the chance to become part of a collaborative and innovative hospital team that is committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive emergency medical services to patients, including initial assessment, resuscitation, and appropriate treatment pathways.
- Engage actively in clinical sessions, overseeing patient care, managing new cases (both major and minor), and conducting follow-up appointments.
- Participate in the on-call rotation alongside consultant colleagues to ensure continuous emergency service availability.
- Oversee certain administrative duties, including rota management.
- Maintain effective communication with General Practitioners, emergency services, and social care providers.
- Foster collaboration and communication with consultant and junior medical staff across various specialties within the Trust.
- Engage in clinical meetings and contribute to postgraduate educational activities within the Trust.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust serves as the primary provider of acute hospital services for a significant population in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. The Trust is situated in a region renowned for its stunning landscapes, offering a unique blend of urban and rural living.
Job Structure
A formal job plan will be established between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director, outlining the consultant's responsibilities and objectives. This plan will be reviewed annually to ensure alignment with both personal and organizational goals.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full MRCEM or FRCEM Primary and Intermediate qualifications.
- Full registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- A minimum of 12 years of medical practice, with at least six years in Emergency Medicine.
- Significant experience in an Emergency Department, including senior night responsibilities.
- Current ALS, ATLS/ACLS, and APLS/EPLS certifications.
- Level 3 Safeguarding Children training completed within the last three years.
Desirable:
- Completion of specialist skills courses (e.g., difficult airways, ultrasound).
- Experience working within the NHS as a medical professional.
