About the Position

HVDC Substation Operations Support Specialist

The Operations team is dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of interconnectors around the clock. As an HVDC Substation Operations Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in maintaining the operational excellence of interconnector assets, including Converter Stations, Cable Systems, Substations, and associated Operational Technology.

Your responsibilities will include conducting various maintenance and inspection activities within the High Voltage Electricity Converter Station. You will collaborate with a team, adhering to safe work practices while sharing knowledge and expertise to complete routine inspections and perform condition monitoring tasks on diverse plant and equipment across interconnector operations.

This role involves occasional support and visits to other sites, which may include international travel, as part of our extensive interconnectors portfolio.

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a team that connects the electricity systems of different countries, contributing to the provision of affordable, clean, and secure energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and minor maintenance tasks, both planned and reactive, while performing condition monitoring across all converter station equipment.
  • Proactively strive to eliminate accidents by employing risk assessment techniques, method statements, and maintaining awareness of potential hazards, reporting near misses.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff members.
  • Fulfill roles as defined in the organization's Safety Rules of 'Competent Person'.
  • Manage interactions with third parties conducting planned and unplanned work safely and efficiently.

About You

  • Possess Grade C/4 or above in STEM GCSEs, a Level 2 Engineering qualification, or an equivalent recognized apprenticeship.
  • Have hands-on engineering experience gained in an industrial setting.
  • Hold Competent Person authorization or be working towards it.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently on a variety of interconnector equipment as part of a cohesive team, with occasional lone working.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Have experience adhering to industrial health and safety regulations.
  • Possess experience working with high voltage switchgear.
