About the Retail Media Team

The Retail Media team is dedicated to developing capabilities that deliver significant value to Tesco, our customers, and our suppliers.

By creating and managing media opportunities within our core online platforms, we aim to inspire our customers, provide suppliers with targeted access to consumers, and ultimately drive profitability for Tesco.

To date, we have established robust media capabilities that have resulted in approximately 30% growth in media revenue from online channels, with plans to further enhance this in the coming years.

To achieve our goals, we are focused on significantly improving our media capabilities, enhancing user experiences, and optimizing our monitoring and improvement processes.

Role Overview:

As a Technical Project Manager, you will oversee complex, cross-functional technology initiatives that support our colleagues and enhance customer service. You will collaborate with various teams, influence product and engineering strategies, and lead projects to deliver value efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage programs with multiple business and technical risks that align with Tesco's strategic priorities.
  • Oversee development resources, influence technical direction, and coordinate the creation of technology and business-facing products.
  • Define and monitor performance metrics against customer and business objectives.
  • Manage risks and issues while influencing interdependent teams.
  • Establish or refine delivery methodologies to achieve program objectives.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive plan to meet program goals, including technical implementation strategies and stakeholder communication.
  • Utilize experience and negotiation skills to navigate trade-offs in delivery, ensuring alignment across business, technology, and engineering teams.
  • Anticipate potential risks and issues, facilitate discussions, and manage escalations effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate emerging trends and concepts into program and product delivery.
  • Understand and drive technical architecture, considering impacts on dependencies, timelines, and implementation plans.
  • Possess a solid understanding of system, software, and data engineering best practices to address delivery challenges.
  • Quickly grasp new technology concepts and their implications for delivery.
  • Effectively manage major incidents, ensuring stakeholders receive timely and relevant information for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define annual budgetary needs.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and external stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of software and professional services.
  • Mentor peers and other roles on methodologies and program management tools, fostering leadership development.
  • Play a pivotal role in the recruitment process and make final hiring decisions.
  • Lead and coordinate the efforts of other project managers within the team.
  • Actively participate in the project management community, influencing capability and capacity planning.
  • Utilize documentation and presentations to align stakeholders across technology and finance.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies with a proven track record of driving positive change within teams.
  • Experience delivering complex technology projects across multiple teams while influencing product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with and lead multi-disciplinary teams throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills across various platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
