Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Nursing Leader to join our team as the Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland. This is a key role within the Scottish Government, responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the nursing and midwifery professions across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level leadership and direction to the nursing and midwifery professions, ensuring that they are equipped to deliver high-quality patient care and services.
  • Work closely with other senior leaders to develop and implement policies and strategies that promote the health and wellbeing of the population of Scotland.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the health and social care sector to ensure that the needs of patients and service users are met.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve the recruitment and retention of nursing and midwifery staff, ensuring that the workforce is equipped to meet the needs of the population.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to Ministers and other senior leaders on matters related to nursing and midwifery.
Requirements
  • You must be a registered nurse with significant experience of leading and managing nursing and midwifery services.
  • You must have a strong understanding of the health and social care landscape in Scotland and be able to develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes.
  • You must be able to work effectively with stakeholders across the health and social care sector, including NHS Boards, local authorities, and voluntary sector organisations.
  • You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and service users.
  • You must be able to work at a strategic level, developing and implementing policies and strategies that promote the health and wellbeing of the population of Scotland.
