Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk and Compliance Lead to join our Commercial Team at Northern Powergrid. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of risk and compliance across our smart metering operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent Northern Powergrid as a key stakeholder at industry bodies, both in-person and remotely.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports for all industry body meetings.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory bodies, such as the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
  • Respond to industry consultations and maintain a comprehensive log of all released consultations.
  • Maintain the technical risk register for Northern Powergrid.
  • Maintain the corporate risk register for Northern Powergrid.
  • Analyze and approve changes to firmware and firmware upgrades for existing meter stock, including release notes and change notes.
  • Liaise with manufacturers to facilitate supplier access to firmware.
  • Own a firmware intelligence pack of information capturing risks related to firmware.
  • Communicate directly with suppliers to mitigate risks associated with firmware deployment.
  • Manage the change log for firmware upgrades.
  • Assist in the submission of due diligence reports to clients and loan providers.
  • Assist in technical assessments of meter asset failures.

Key Competencies:

  • A good working knowledge of various types of smart meters and their firmware configurations.
  • A good working knowledge of IT systems associated with smart meters, including communication networks.
  • Knowledge of the smart meter rollout and specific meter types.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing ability and verbal communication.
  • The ability to interpret regulatory documents and consultations to provide responses.
  • Good organizational skills and time management of tasks.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Essential experience: Knowledge of smart metering and the rollout of smart meters.
  • Desirable qualifications and experience: Degree/HND qualified in a relevant subject, change management experience, industry experience directly related to industry groups, SQL or other database skills, knowledge and understanding of smart meter firmware and/or IT systems associated with the smart meter rollout, experience in dealing with regulation, compliance, and risk reporting.
