Chief Policy Officer

Trade Association in Financial Services

Remote Work with Travel for Engagements

Salary Range: £55,000-£60,000 based on experience with 25 days of annual leave.

Full Time, Permanent Position

Our client, a distinguished and well-respected trade association within the financial services industry, representing 45 member organizations, is on the lookout for a Chief Policy Officer to join their compact team of three.

If you possess substantial experience as a Senior Policy Advisor, Policy Manager, or Chief Policy Officer in the financial services domain – encompassing investments, insurance, savings, mutuals, friendly societies, credit unions, building societies, banks, cooperatives, pensions, regulators, and compliance with FCSA or PRA regulations, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.

Role Overview

  1. To formulate, develop, and execute the approved policy and strategic direction of the association, guided by the association board.
  2. To actively advocate for the association as a trade body to all pertinent stakeholders, ensuring its ongoing independence and providing support to all members.
  3. To oversee regulatory, legislative, and governance issues impacting the association's members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To maintain a comprehensive understanding of Financial Services and Not-for-Profit operations, including relevant legislation, regulations, accounting practices, and taxation.
  2. To address inquiries from members regarding these matters and resolve them personally or through external resources.
  3. To research, evaluate, and inform members about the implications of current and proposed legislation.
  4. To participate in relevant Board and Committee meetings, as well as training and networking events, preparing necessary documentation and follow-up actions.
  5. To manage and uphold the Association's Corporate Governance Code, assisting members in achieving and demonstrating best practices, and reporting to the Board.
  6. To serve as a liaison between regulators and members when appropriate.
  7. To act as a contact point for the Association regarding relevant external inquiries from regulators and government representatives.
  8. To keep members updated on significant regulatory, governance, and legislative changes.
  9. To assist the Chief Executive in executing the plans established by the Association Board, integrating them into the strategic and business plan, which may include managing external advisors and attending meetings with government officials, regulators, and media.

Candidate Profile

  1. Proven experience as a Senior Policy Advisor, Policy Manager, or Chief Policy Officer in the financial services sector – covering investments, insurance, savings, mutuals, friendly societies, credit unions, building societies, banks, cooperatives, pensions, and regulatory bodies.
  2. Strong ability to advocate effectively on industry matters.
  3. Well-honed written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Proactive attitude with a commitment to achieving successful outcomes.
