Job Title: Clinical Coder

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Coder to join our team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Clinical Coder, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of clinical coding for in-patient episodes.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Timely and accurately code patient episodes in accordance with National Clinical Coding Standards
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Coding Team to achieve high-quality coding standards
  • Attend training and workshops to maintain personal development and stay up-to-date with coding standards
  • Contribute to the team's success by analyzing and interpreting complex medical information and communicating effectively with healthcare professionals
Requirements:
  • Extensive clinical coding experience in the UK
  • GCSE standard education
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS4 clinical coding classifications
  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and coding rules and conventions
  • Ability to abstract clinical information from case notes and communicate with healthcare professionals

Person Specification:
  • Working towards or willing to work towards sitting the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
  • GCSE or equivalent level education with Grade 4 in English and Maths
  • Completed National Clinical Coding Standards Course and received comprehensive training on secondary care inpatient specialities
Skills and Attributes:
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and good information governance practice
  • Keyboard skills and computer literacy
