Senior Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Practitioner to join our team at Melbourne Day Nursery. As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care and early years learning experiences for children who attend our nursery.
Key Responsibilities- Provide leadership to other nursery staff and deputise for the Nursery Manager or Deputy Manager in their absence.
- Ensure that high standards of care and education are provided to the children, including ensuring that policies and procedures are upheld.
- Lead the deployment of staff throughout the nursery and ensure that fire equipment checks, including smoke alarm testing, are carried out regularly.
- Ensure that food hygiene standards are maintained and that the security of the children and premises is upheld.
- Liaise with parents/carers as appropriate and accurately maintain the nursery's database, registers, and documentation concerning health and safety and child protection.
- Uphold the nursery's confidentiality policy and ensure that the nursery's planning for the individual needs of each child is maintained to a high standard.
- Deputise for the Nursery Manager and/or Deputy Manager in their absence and understand and fully implement the nursery's policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation and delivery of the EYFS and participate in professional development and training.
- Mentor staff to ensure the policies and values of nursery management are understood and implemented.
- Share good childcare practice with colleagues, display exemplary behaviour, and act as a role model to junior staff.
- Provide high-quality care and activities for children that recognise both individual and group requirements in a secure, safe, and stimulating environment.
- Support activities, both inside and outside the nursery, that encourage creativity, development, co-ordination, independence, self-expression, and learning through play.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework, including the Safeguarding & Welfare Requirements, for guidance in your practice.
- Work in partnership with parents and carers, recognising that parents are their children's first educators, and encourage parental involvement in the nursery.
- Be aware of Safeguarding issues and follow the nursery's Safeguarding procedures.
- Ensure close monitoring of children about whom there are concerns.
- Work in partnership with other early years professionals and outside agencies.
- Prepare and serve food and drinks for children, encouraging good nutrition and sociable eating.
- Assist children with personal care, including changing nappies, assisting with potty training, and other associated welfare duties.
- Carry out on-going cleaning of the nursery, toys, and equipment.
- Fully comply with the nursery's outings policy to ensure the safety of children outside nursery premises.
- Uphold and carry out the duties of the post with due regard to the Nursery's Equality and Diversity policy.
- Co-operate in the implementation of the health and safety policy and ensure that the nursery's practice and environment meet health and safety standards.
- Be a nursery key holder and available out of hours to respond to emergencies.
We provide childcare in a large double-fronted detached property on Little Horton Lane. We provide a home-away-from-home atmosphere for children that is both cosy and welcoming. Our staff work together closely like one big family, ensuring children's needs are being met. Teamwork is paramount to running a successful childcare setting.
