Amazon is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our specialized VAT team in a newly created role focused on evolving VAT regulations and enhancing risk management strategies across Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret tax legislation related to Amazon, offering in-depth insights on optimal application within the Tax Environment, and providing expert advice on taxation matters.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of VAT risk challenges posed by existing regulations and new developments, alongside business initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, and report on the VAT risk landscape, crafting a tailored risk management roadmap that aligns with Amazon's strategies.
  • Deliver a robust strategic risk management framework for new VAT regulations, ensuring compliance and clarifying implications for various internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct independent reviews of strategic projects to identify weaknesses in VAT design and execution.
  • Report to senior leadership on VAT risk management, business challenges, and strategies for mitigation.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including peers, tax technical industry groups, and advisors.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Professional finance/tax qualification (CIOT/ADIT or equivalent), TPGP, ICAEW, ACCA, IIA, or relevant law degree.
  • Proven skills in risk mitigation and control, with the ability to scope risk appetite, identify risks, and provide relevant assessments and monitoring from a VAT/regulatory perspective.
  • 12 to 15 years of regulatory experience in a large accounting or consulting firm, law firm, or in-house at a major commercial organization.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical concepts effectively to both internal and external stakeholders, both in writing and verbally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in initiating and implementing change in ambiguous environments.
  • Capacity to quickly understand complex business arrangements and manage multiple initiatives with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Working knowledge of VAT in EMEA, particularly regarding B2B supply chain and risk management.
  • Expertise in tax risk management and the development of strategic VAT risk detection and management programs.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
