About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of exceptional pharmaceutical care and services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the pharmacy team in delivering effective medicines optimisation services, working closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive the best possible care and achieve optimal health outcomes.
  • Perform a variety of general pharmacy duties under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician, including the preparation and dispensing of medications, and supporting the medicines optimisation team in their activities.
  • Participate in the dispensing of medications, including named patient/unlicensed medicines, cytotoxic medicines, intravenous preparations, and clinical trials.
  • Assist with the assembly of emergency drugs for inclusion in emergency boxes, and complete fluid orders to ensure that the hospital fluid stores are adequately stocked.
  • Undertake ward drug stock reviews to ensure adequate and appropriate stocks are held on wards, and dispose of returned pharmaceutical items from wards/theatres.
Requirements
  • Essential qualifications and experience as outlined in the job description.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medicines optimisation principles and practices, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
