About the Role

The NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Workforce Transformation Lead to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of the primary care pharmacy workforce transformation ambition of the Somerset Integrated Medicines Optimisation strategy and the Somerset People Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convene and facilitate collaborative pharmacy workforce development activity between primary care providers/primary care networks, and between primary care and other sectors of pharmacy practice.
  • Create and promote an integrated, collaborative and inclusive culture and approach to developing the future pharmacy workforce, enabling and supporting senior pharmacy leaders across all localities to work together to deliver a sustainable pharmacy workforce with the skills to meet the needs of our population in primary care.
  • Expand the number and range of placements in primary care to meet the requirements of the new MPharm undergraduate programme.
  • Expand the number of high-quality foundation trainee pharmacist and pre-registration pharmacy technician trainee placements based in primary care, to meet the demands of future workforce plans.
  • Develop effective supervision and practice education capacity to meet the needs of learners in primary care with particular emphasis on independent prescribing skills.
  • Support the development of PCNs as multidisciplinary learning organisations and increase opportunities for multidisciplinary approaches to education and training.
  • Support the development of a more collaborative, system-wide approach to promoting pharmacy roles in primary care, to enable positive recruitment and increased uptake of pharmacy careers.
Requirements
  • High level of understanding of current policy and workforce development challenges within the public sector/the NHS and the complexities of system transformation programmes.
  • Up to date knowledge of the Initial Education and Training (IET) of pharmacy technicians and reforms to the IET of pharmacists.
  • Up to date knowledge of the primary care landscape and the impact for the pharmacy workforce, including the implications and opportunities of the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme.
  • Experience delivering successful strategic workforce development projects.
  • Experience of managing risks and accurate reporting.
  • Experience of working autonomously to lead and deliver strategic change across more than one organisation.
  • Registered pharmacy professional.
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience in practice.
  • Extensive current experience and knowledge of pharmacy and of primary care services.
  • Project management qualification or relevant experience of change management processes.
  • Demonstrable evidence of continuing professional development.
