Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Full time

Job Overview

Have you ever thought about a career in the Civil Service, where you can explore a multitude of impactful roles that have the potential to enhance the lives of individuals and the nation?

The Army's Programmes Directorate integrates essential change initiatives to ensure they are executed effectively, on budget, and within timelines. We are dedicated to Project, Programme & Portfolio Management (P3M) and successful delivery. Each project, from fundamental equipment to cutting-edge technology, presents unique opportunities and challenges, and we will equip you with the necessary tools to thrive through comprehensive training and development.

You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, as our Directorate comprises Civil Servants, military personnel, and contractors, all working in unison to advance the Army's Modernisation Agenda, ensuring the effective delivery of the programme at every critical phase.

The British Army is embarking on a decade-long, £42 billion modernisation initiative for equipment and infrastructure, aimed at creating a more formidable force capable of global operations and leading within NATO.

This position plays a pivotal role in supporting this modernisation effort and is crucial to the success of the £2 billion major programme focused on developing Challenger 3, the Army's next-generation Main Battle Tank, recently showcased by the Secretary of State for Defence.

This role is structured for 37 hours per week.

Role Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate as we seek a Programme Scheduler with outstanding communication abilities and experience in a Portfolio, Programme & Project (P3M) environment.

  • Assisting the Senior Leadership team in making informed and timely decisions.

This position offers significant opportunities to engage in a critical set of programmes, deepening your understanding of Army capabilities and influencing their delivery. You will gain valuable programme experience and exposure to Army equipment, with opportunities to participate in activities such as Battlefield Tours, professional communities of practice, and site visits.

We aim to maintain a reserve list from this recruitment campaign, meaning that high-caliber candidates may be contacted post-interview to discuss similar roles within Army Programmes without the need for a second interview.

The Army Programmes Directorate is embracing a flexible workforce strategy to ensure project delivery priorities are met while maximizing opportunities for skills development and broader career pathways. Successful candidates may be allocated flexibly across the Directorate in alignment with priorities.
