Job Purpose:

As a key member of the Halfords team, this role will focus on delivering the people strategy in partnership with senior leaders. The successful candidate will be responsible for building the people and leadership capability of the organization through key performance, talent, and leadership interventions.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Champion and drive the people strategy, holding leaders accountable for its implementation and ensuring organizational design enables the fulfillment of the plan.
  • Understand functional people gaps and develop capability to address these through internal development initiatives and external appointments.
  • Support the improvement of engagement, ensuring action plans are built and retention risks mitigated within the remit of accountability.
  • Embed a performance management culture, taking action to develop high-performing teams and ensuring talent and succession plans are in place for partnered functions.
  • Work collaboratively with centers of expertise to support recruitment and employee relations, advising and supporting leaders as appropriate.
  • Improve HR efficiency and process, removing non-value-add activity, automating or making recommendations for self-service where opportunities exist.
  • Measure performance through key people metrics and scorecards and drive action for success.
  • Build trusted relationships, hold the mirror up with leaders, challenging activity that doesn't align with the plan or behaviors that disengage.
Key Skills, Functional Experience & Qualifications:
  • Substantial HR experience, some of which should be in a similar role in a large or medium-sized organization, with experience of partnering at director level and ideally a Professional Member of CIPD or demonstrate the equivalent experience.
  • Self-belief in personal ability to make a difference to the business, excellent interpersonal skills, including effective relationship building and influencing skills, high emotional intelligence, and diplomatic and confident working across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Good written and spoken communication, accurate and confident when dealing with data, strong commercial acumen, excellent questioning and analytical skills, high levels of initiative and attention to detail, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • A highly customer-centric approach with a proven track record of tenacious delivery, demonstrable business understanding, and strategic awareness ensuring that HR plays a pivotal role in delivery of business goals.
  • Strong IT skills, with experience of Microsoft Office, HR databases, and excellent spreadsheet skills, and a demonstrable knowledge and understanding of employment law and its application.
