Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Information Security Analyst is to safeguard the data of Building Digital UK (BDUK) and its affiliates while supporting the design and implementation of BDUK solutions. This role involves collaborating with the Security Team to oversee our computer networks for potential security threats, documenting any incidents or breaches, and guiding data and development teams on security best practices as they develop and maintain BDUK's software offerings.

The Security Analyst will operate under the supervision of the Head of Information Security, assisting in the execution of security measures and working closely with key stakeholders to enhance security across the organization.

The Security Analyst will report directly to the Head of Information Security and may act as a representative when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review data flow diagrams for sensitive information.
  • Analyze vulnerability reports with development teams and assist in prioritizing and mitigating risks.
  • Utilize SIEM tools for incident analysis, indicators of compromise, and external threat intelligence, creating SIEM use cases for alerts in collaboration with the Security Operations team.
  • Support the broader Security Operations team in incident investigation and resolution.
  • Act as a representative for the Head of Information Security.
  • Contribute to threat modeling activities.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Information Security to organize Red/Blue team exercises.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies in security processes through automation where feasible.
  • Address cybersecurity inquiries from across the organization, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Maintain a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement.
  • Challenge existing practices constructively.
  • Respond positively to change and proactively facilitate improvements.
  • Ensure the security of software applications and components in line with internal standards and organizational requirements.
  • Create security training materials for BDUK personnel.
  • Evaluate and suggest enhancements to current security services, staying informed about industry standards and emerging technologies.
  • Document processes, including standard operating procedures and configuration guides for involved solutions.
  • Foster the development of fellow Information Security Analysts through peer learning, knowledge sharing, and mentoring, promoting a culture of skill enhancement.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • A degree or higher in a relevant field such as computer science, software engineering, IT, or communications and networking, or substantial experience in an information security role.
  • Professional certifications in information security, such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong conceptual, creative, and analytical thinking skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset, collaborating effectively within immediate and extended teams.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across the organization.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of infrastructure and network security.
  • Familiarity with application and deployment architectures.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably GCP.
  • Awareness of key legislation such as GDPR and the Investigatory Powers Act.
  • Comprehension of security frameworks and models, including ISO27001 and OWASP.
  • Experience with security technologies, including firewalls, DDoS protection, SIEM, threat intelligence tools, and endpoint protection.
