About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Lawyer to join our Complex Injury team in Liverpool. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our Partner, Victoria Coleman, to handle a diverse range of complex injury claims, including high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of complex injury claims, including high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury cases, involving brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and fatal claims.
  • Communicate with insurer clients, addressing their queries and providing updates on the progress of matters.
  • Conduct forensic analysis of voluminous quantum evidence, preparing chronologies, identifying anomalies, and gathering relevant information from various sources.
  • Utilize your knowledge of complex injury symptomology to identify relevant issues within medical records, instructing medical experts and drawing key issues to their attention.
  • Analyze sources of liability evidence, identifying gaps and providing critical insights.
  • Prepare concise technical advice on all aspects of claim handling, including indemnity, liability, quantum, and causation issues, and claims resolution for strategy discussions with the Lead Lawyer.
  • Proactively identify next steps required on matters, discuss them with the Lead Lawyer, and take action as agreed.
  • Interview witnesses and draft statements.
  • Liaise with parties involved in claims, including the insured, insurer, witnesses, etc.
  • Draft pleadings and applications.
  • Instruct counsel and attend conferences, JSMs, mediations, both remotely and in person.
  • Attend court in person or by telephone, attend trials, settlement conferences, etc., as required.
  • Deliver agreed performance targets and quality standards.
  • Delegate assigned tasks for a Complex Injury Paralegal and be fully engaged in their development in terms of technical ability and achievement of objectives.
  • Maintain case management systems with up to-date management information for clients.

Requirements

  • You will be a qualified solicitor, CILEX, or have proven legal experience.
  • You will have experience of indemnity, liability, and quantum.
  • We will consider a claimant background if you have significant large loss/CAT experience.
  • You will be a well-rounded lawyer with a deep understanding of case law, litigation practice & process, and Court Practice Rules.
  • You will be fully engaged in the development of yourself and others.
  • You will have the ability to deliver an outstanding service to clients.
