About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Regional Manager to lead our South East Construction and Major Works team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for delivering operational and financial targets while ensuring exemplary standards of health and safety and compliance with statutory legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Lead, motivate, and inspire the team to successfully deliver and model desired behaviours
    • Translate strategic objectives into robust plans with operational, financial, commercial, and safety targets for the region
    • Engage the Senior Team to ensure successful delivery
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure safety case responsibilities and operational risks are communicated, understood, and adhered to
    • Comply with statutory obligations and ensure exemplary standards of health and safety
  • Operational Management
    • Control, manage, and coordinate resources during emergency incidents
    • Forecast delivery outputs from the plan and continuously review and plan for outperformance
    • Implement remedial action if required
  • Commercial and Financial Management
    • Assist with the delivery strategy and preparation of contract bid packages of work
    • Participate in monthly/quarterly performance reviews with contractors
    • Manage and develop teams and direct reports in alignment with the SGN performance management framework
  • Business Development and Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation
    • Design and implement plans to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
    • Review the impact of implemented plans
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
    • Chair regular senior management meetings to discuss performance against targets and areas for improvement
    • Set clear objectives for the Senior Team and hold them accountable for delivery
    • Provide mentorship and promote self-development to support a robust succession plan for the next generation of leaders
Requirements
  • Proven track record of leading and managing a large safety-critical operation at a senior level
  • Ability to manage technical experts to maximise safe and efficient operations
  • Previous experience in a regulated utility business is desirable
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen and understanding of key financial and operational drivers
  • Solid communication, motivational, and influencing skills with an ability to engage and influence people at all levels
  • A role model for company values and behaviours
  • Evidence of successful succession planning including the development of teams and individuals
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent is desirable and holds, or working towards gas-related professional qualifications
  • IOSH Managing Safety is required (if not already qualified the incumbent must work towards a qualification within a 6-month timescale)
  • Experience of collaborative working with a direct labour workforce in a unionised environment
  • Experience in managing a contract labour workforce alongside a direct labour workforce
