About this role
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. As a Specialist Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with profound and complex learning disabilities and Autism to live a full and active life.
Key responsibilities
- To provide person-centred support to individuals with complex needs, promoting their independence and well-being.
- To develop and implement personalized care plans, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met in a safe and supportive environment.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure that individuals receive a high-quality service.
- To administer medication and provide personal care, including support with daily living tasks.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of TEACCH programmes for individuals with Autism.
- To monitor and record the wellbeing and behaviour of individuals, ensuring that care plans are updated accordingly.
- To work in a person-centred way, developing professional relationships with individuals and their families to determine how their care and support is delivered.
- To communicate effectively with individuals using Total Communication methods, and to develop a rapport with carers, parents, and other individuals connected with the daily living of service users.
- To administer medication in line with policy and procedures.
- To assist individuals with a range of domestic tasks, such as vacuuming, dishwashing, and keeping clean food preparation areas.
- To participate in the review process and ensure that outcomes from this are followed through and all necessary paperwork is complete.
- To undertake Key Working responsibilities for individual service users, including keeping files up to date.
- To support the development of risk assessments for service users, group activities, and ensure that these are understood by all involved.

We are looking for a Support Worker who can demonstrate compassion, empathy, and a commitment to providing high-quality care and support. You will be working with individuals who have complex needs, and you will need to be able to communicate effectively with them using Total Communication methods.
