We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology and Blood Transfusion department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing a high-quality service to our patients and contributing to the delivery of excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a range of complex investigations to assist in the diagnosis of disease and monitoring of treatment, including manual, semi-automated, and automated techniques on highly specialized analytical equipment.
- Work in rotation through Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion, and Immunohaematology sections, producing high-quality scientific results and maintaining skills through rotation.
- Deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence to maintain workflow and manage staffing, and assist with training and management of Practitioner BMS staff.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures and protocols, and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide a comprehensive service to patients, and contribute to the development of the department's strategic plan.
- Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Substantial post-registration experience and competency in required activities, preferably in a UK pathology service Haematology/Blood Transfusion laboratory.
- Experience of use of relevant instrumentation within the laboratory, and evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Able to work to an appropriate standard of competency in all sections, and through rotation, maintain those skills.
- Sufficient skill and knowledge to deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence to maintain workflow and manage staffing.
- Able to assist with training and management of Practitioner BMS staff.
- IT skills appropriate to the department.
- BSc Biomedical Sciences or Degree accredited by IBMS as suitable for HCPC registration.
- Specialist portfolio and/or MSc.
- Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Already undertaking Band 6 Role.
- Substantial post-registration experience/competency in required activities, preferably in a UK pathology service Haematology/Blood Transfusion laboratory.
- Experience of use of relevant instrumentation within the laboratory.
- Evidence of CPD.
- Able to work to an appropriate standard of competency in all sections, and through rotation, maintain those skills.
- Sufficient skill and knowledge to deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence to maintain workflow and manage staffing.
- Able to assist with training and management of Practitioner BMS staff.
- IT skills appropriate to the department.
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
- Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
