Financial Accountant – Manufacturing Sector

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant with a background in the manufacturing sector to ensure robust financial governance and reporting at Laing O'Rourke's Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC).

CEMC plays a pivotal role in our dedication to offsite manufacturing, being a premier precast facility that has been operational since 2009. We produce a diverse array of products such as walls, floors, and bridge components for various projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and report on Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow, while submitting budgets and forecasts to the Group.
  • Analyze business performance and provide insights into variances between actuals and forecasts.
  • Oversee balance sheet accounts, fixed asset registers, and inventory listings, ensuring monthly reconciliations are completed.

Additionally, you will:

  • Conduct weekly cash flow forecasts and identify opportunities to optimize cash management and working capital.
  • Ensure accurate representation of stock and work-in-progress in the financial systems and reports.
  • Proactively enhance financial and operational processes to deliver timely and precise management information.
  • Stay informed on Accounting Standards and implement necessary changes in accounting practices.
  • Assess business risks and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for year-end audits.
  • Handle VAT and CIS return preparations.
  • Occasionally travel to other offices as required.
  • Supervise two Accounts Clerks.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced environment with strong prioritization skills.
  • Proven track record in process development and improvement.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience in budget management, forecasting, and monthly reporting.
  • Proficient in IT, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Power BI is advantageous.

Desirable:

  • Experience with SAP, COINs, Tagetik, and Power BI.
  • Background in a large manufacturing organization.
