About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Employment and Social Security Policy Officer to join our team at Maternity Action. As a key member of our policy and campaigning team, you will play a crucial role in promoting and protecting the rights of pregnant women and new parents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse Government policy and develop policy positions on employment and social security issues affecting pregnant women and new parents.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and responses to Government consultations on employment and social security policy.
  • Conduct primary research with women, unions, and voluntary sector workers on employment issues, including sensitive health issues.
  • Represent Maternity Action in face-to-face and online meetings and networks.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Government agencies, unions, business organisations, and voluntary organisations.
  • Engage in advocacy with relevant Government agencies, unions, and voluntary sector groups.
  • Communicate about policy and research work through presentations and social media.
  • Undertake monitoring and evaluation, and prepare reports for funders.
Requirements
  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Knowledge of employment policy, particularly in relation to maternity discrimination, gender equality, and precarious work.
  • Understanding of the social security system as it relates to pregnant women and new parents.
  • Knowledge of organisations and networks engaged in debates on employment rights and gender equality.
  • Commitment to women's rights.
What We Offer

We offer a hybrid working arrangement, with the opportunity to work from home and our office in Finsbury Park, London. We are flexible about start and finish times, and hours can be spread across three, four, or five days. All staff are required to travel within the UK occasionally.
