Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom Essex County Council Full time

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people?

Essex County Council is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Residential Care Specialists at New Farm Road, a newly refurbished short-term home for five 12-16 year olds.

About the Role

As a Residential Care Specialist, you will provide nurturing therapeutic care to children who have experienced trauma. You'll act as a supportive figure, guiding and caring for them like a parent would. Each day brings unique experiences, filled with both rewarding moments and challenges.

You will be part of the management team, responsible for the smooth daily operation of the home and creating a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. Working 37 hours per week across a mix of early (7am – 2.30pm) and late shifts (2pm – 9.30pm), with every other weekend off, you will lead and mentor a team of staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate and therapeutic care to children in need.
  • Support and guide children through their daily routines and activities.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop individualized care plans.
  • Manage and supervise a team of staff members, providing guidance and regular supervision.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents at all times.
  • Effectively manage challenging behaviors using de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain clear and concise written and verbal communication with colleagues, families, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience

Previous experience in a Children's Home or transferable line management experience is essential. A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is preferred, but not mandatory. We offer comprehensive training and development opportunities to support your professional growth.
