Halifax Estates oversees a diverse portfolio of properties, including:

  • Two main residences
  • 40 rental farms
  • 140 rental houses and cottages
  • 750 acres of managed farmland
  • A stud farm
  • 1140 acres of woodland
  • Various commercial properties including a village pub

About the Role:

We are seeking a proactive, organized, and experienced individual to join our team in the newly established position of Assistant Buildings Manager. The successful candidate will support the Buildings Manager in all maintenance activities and enhancement projects across our varied property portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Buildings Manager in managing the Works Department
  • Supervising repairs and improvement initiatives on the properties, including contractor work
  • Ensuring project delivery within set timelines and budget constraints
  • Helping prepare work schedules and tender documents while obtaining quotations
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and CDM regulations within the Buildings Department
  • Assisting in the formulation of annual budgets and monitoring expenditures
  • Creating property Records of Condition and Dilapidations schedules
  • Coordinating with stakeholders, local authorities, and obtaining necessary external approvals for specific projects
  • Updating the Estate's owners and Management Team on project progress

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong understanding of building regulations and legislation
  • Experience with various building types, from modern agricultural structures to historic properties
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a small team
  • Flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Integrity, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic
  • Solid knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM regulations
  • Proficient in IT, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and ideally CAD
  • Full UK Driving licence

Qualifications:

Desirable qualifications include:

  • HND/HNC in Architectural Technology
  • HND/HNC in Construction Management

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Accommodation is included as part of the remuneration package, along with a company vehicle.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the Estate's pension scheme, with the employer contributing 6% of the salary.

Standard working hours are 8am to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. Flexibility may be required during peak periods, and the successful candidate should be prepared for emergency call-outs outside of regular hours.

Holiday entitlement is 29 working days, inclusive of Public Holidays.

The successful candidate is expected to commence work promptly.
