Position Overview

This role is integral to the Gas and Liquid Fuels Operations team, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of EDF Trading's natural gas activities across the UK and Europe.

Department Overview

The Gas and Liquid Fuels Operations team is responsible for managing the supply, demand, and trading activities related to natural gas. This includes daily operations such as processing nominations for gas delivery, scheduling, and handling transportation requests, all while adhering to strict capacity limitations. The primary goal is to minimize financial penalties and capitalize on market opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations related to gas physical position management, including logistics and storage.
  • Coordinate scheduling of gas positions at various European hubs and ensure timely confirmations.
  • Engage with Gas Traders to balance positions through trading platforms and capacity auctions.
  • Conduct out-of-hours trading activities based on established triggers.
  • Enhance commercial acumen by trading spreads across Europe.
  • Optimize gas storage and interconnector flows during off-hours, responding to operational notices.
  • Identify and communicate arbitrage trading opportunities to maximize portfolio value.
  • Provide agency services for EDF Group entities.
  • Adapt to additional responsibilities as required.
  • Assist in the development and review of operational procedures, ensuring effective communication and implementation.
  • Collaborate with IT to test and review new operational tools.
  • Train new team members in operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Gas Operator role is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, particularly within the UK and European natural gas sectors.
  • Familiarity with balancing mechanisms and nomination deadlines.
  • Experience with major TSO portals and trading platforms.
  • Background in front office operations with a focus on meeting deadlines is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated commercial focus in portfolio optimization.

Technical Skills

  • Degree-level education is preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel and analytical tools.
  • FCA qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of additional European languages is a plus.
  • Strong logical reasoning abilities.

This position requires a 24/7 shift rotation, including on-call responsibilities.
