Safety Case Author Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Safety Case Author to join our team on a permanent basis, working on major projects.

Purpose and Scope:

As a Safety Case Author, you will be part of our major programme safety case capability, providing radiological safety assessment and expertise.

Responsibilities:
  • Undertake radiological safety assessment and associated activities, interfacing with engineering, project management, project controls, and document management functions.
  • Act in any safety assessment or equivalent role.
  • Support the Safety Case Manager.
  • Support wider Programme safety case and engineering leads when requested.
  • Assist the Head of Profession in capability development and establishment and implementation of resource strategies, recruitment plans, and competence.
  • Advise Amentum and Client leadership, engineering, programme, and project management, and clients on regulatory compliance, standards, and guidance.
  • Interface as necessary with suppliers.
  • Support the client in interactions with Regulators and safety committees.
Requirements:
  • Ideal candidate holds a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education).
  • Human Factors assessment and HAZAN production experience.
  • Experience of UK and International standards, Technical Assessment Guides.
  • Experience of a range of nuclear hazard identification and analytical tools.
  • Experience of ergonomics/human factors design.
  • Experience of relevant code (THERP, HEART etc.) application in a wide range of nuclear operations and fault scenarios.
  • Ability to gain and retain Security Clearance and willingness to obtain Developed Vetting.
  • Ability to travel for several days at a time in the UK and occasional overseas travel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation and report writing.
  • Good MS applications, organizational skills, and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
Desirable:
  • Experience of UK nuclear site licensing, safety assessment principles, regulatory guidance on safety assessment, and nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
  • Experience in two or more UK Nuclear Site Licensee Organisations.
  • Experience of Regulatory permissioning/flexible permissioning.
  • Experience of safety case in civil reactors and defence sector.
  • Experience of international nuclear safety assessment.
  • Project management and project controls skills.
  • Stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach.

The position requires the ability to gain and retain Security Clearance and willingness to obtain Developed Vetting.
