We are pleased to present a remarkable opportunity within our organization for a Senior Psychiatrist specializing in Geriatric Liaison Services.
The successful candidate will primarily offer leadership and advanced medical expertise to the Geriatric Liaison Service, operating within the Department of Psychological Medicine.
This role presents an exciting challenge, requiring flexibility, visionary thinking, and exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patients and their families, while fostering professional relationships with multidisciplinary and inter-agency teams.
Applicants must hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and possess the MRCPsych UK or an equivalent postgraduate qualification. Inclusion on the GMC's Specialist Register is essential, or applicants should be Specialty Trainees nearing completion of their training in Geriatric Psychiatry.
The position includes a minimum of 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) as standard for full-time roles, with potential for enhancements to support broader Trust objectives. There is a robust peer support network and opportunities for clinical supervision. A relocation package is also available.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn executing the clinical responsibilities of this position, the Senior Psychiatrist will be expected to:
- Provide expert psychiatric input to the Geriatric Liaison Service.
- Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients aged 65 and older who are detained in acute care settings under mental health legislation.
- Collaborate with consultant colleagues for cross-coverage as necessary.
- Deliver specialized advice, consultation, and training to Primary Care, Secondary Mental Health Services, and Acute Teaching Hospitals.
- Engage with colleagues to ensure patient-centered care, effective collaboration, and risk management.
- Participate actively in departmental governance, including audits.
- Engage in peer appraisal, continuing professional development, and job planning.
- Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff.
- Contribute to undergraduate education.
- Participate in the on-call rota for Geriatric and Learning Disability psychiatry.
- Support postgraduate education and mentorship of junior doctors.
- Engage in continuing professional development in line with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
- Complete all relevant clinical administration associated with this role.

Job RequirementsAs a Senior Psychiatrist in the Geriatric Liaison Team, you will be responsible for delivering safe and effective care and treatment based on evidence-based practices. You will share our vision of integrated, multidisciplinary collaboration and actively contribute to service development through research and support.
The successful candidate will be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undergo training to obtain the necessary qualifications under mental health legislation.
Access to reliable transportation for commuting within the Trust's operational area is essential.
Essential Qualifications- Relevant qualifications and training in psychiatry.
- Experience in psychiatric settings.
