Apprentice Commercial Quantity Surveyor

Morrison Energy Services is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team in Scotland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for actively assisting the Commercial Department and project team to maximise profit and reduce risk.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Compiling relevant information for the preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales.
- Assisting with the implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel, while developing lasting relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
- Conducting thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessments and monitoring the register and related documentation in accordance with the plan.
- Ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management, ensuring all sub-contractors and suppliers have submitted compliant quotations/enquiries/applications within the required timescale, and producing all documentation to select and secure services, as well as monthly assessments, variations/CE claims, and final account agreements.
- Actively increasing knowledge of commercial issues and contract law to manage and agree compensation events/variations/claims.
- Developing processes for increased accuracy and efficiency, minimising time journal and reconciliation tasks.
- Liaising with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure appropriate commercial cover is maintained.
- Assisting the team and Project Manager, Engineers, and Planners with regard to the recovery of contract costs and enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays, and claims.
- Assisting with the production of monthly project financial and forecast reports for analysis with Finance staff and Commercial Staff.
- Developing sound and balanced negotiating skills.
- Attending handover and progress meetings as requested.
- Helping to produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations.
- Complying with and contributing to the effective implementation of the current MES TN policies, including Health and Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies.
- Working within established Company policies and procedures.
- Undertaking any other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needs.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Financial awareness.
- Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Contract costing knowledge.
- Contract law knowledge (NEC3/4).
- Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or Cost Clerk role.
- Contract experience, capturing site records for variations and valuations; supporting a project team.
- Sub-contractor management experience.
- Cost/value reconciliation experience.
- A qualification in Quantity Surveying.
- A graduate or 'graduate calibre' level of education.
- A full UK driving license.
- Knowledge of the industry would be ideal.
