Essex County Council is seeking a dedicated Green Sector Development Lead to champion and execute its ambitious Sector Development Strategy, driving sustainable growth within the Essex economy.

This 18-month fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity presents a chance to make a tangible impact on the transition towards a carbon-neutral future by 2050.

As the Green Sector Development Lead, you will play a pivotal role in fostering new sustainable businesses, guiding existing enterprises towards more environmentally friendly practices, and cultivating robust partnerships within the green sector. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying and capitalizing on emerging opportunities within this dynamic field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead inclusive sustainable economic growth initiatives, attracting investment, creating jobs, and enhancing Essex's reputation as a leader in sustainability.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify sustainable business opportunities, fostering innovation and collaboration across diverse sectors.
  • Collaborate with teams and partners to proactively identify potential projects aligned with funding opportunities, ensuring timely submissions and successful grant applications.
  • Champion the pursuit of grant funding and sustainable growth opportunities across key industry sectors within Essex, including net-zero construction, retrofitting, and clean energy solutions.
  • Ensure robust project and financial management practices are implemented for all assigned projects, guaranteeing on-time delivery and adherence to budgetary constraints.

Your Profile:

  • Possess a degree or equivalent professional qualification relevant to the field, coupled with demonstrable experience in sustainable development or related areas.
  • Exhibit a proven track record of building strong networks and effectively collaborating with diverse stakeholders, influencing partners, and fostering positive relationships.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the green sector landscape, including emerging trends, technologies, and policy developments.
  • Possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
