Director of Foundation Relations and Government Grants

The Barnes Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Foundation Relations and Government Grants to lead our foundation and public agency giving program. This is a critical role that requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of securing significant funding from foundations and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and execute a strategic plan for foundation and public agency support, focusing on maximizing and growing unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and permanently restricted revenue.
- Manage a portfolio of 40-50 foundation and government giving prospects, totaling $2-3M annually, and work with corporate foundations as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with foundation executives and identify new donors to explore and build a broader national network of potential funders.
- Support all funder solicitations and proposals, including custom proposals, government grant applications, and meeting materials.
- Regularly prospect for and solicit general operating, project, and in-kind support.
- Work closely with program areas to identify, solicit, and steward foundation and public agency representatives.
- Represent the Advancement Department in partnering with Curatorial, Education, and Audience Engagement Departments.
- Supervise and collaborate on proposal development, applications, and reports to foundations and government entities.
- Oversee documentation of foundation and public agency giving activities within the Raiser's Edge database.
- Interact with senior leadership and Board of Trustees in solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship processes.
- Identify, track, and leverage board and other volunteer committee linkages to foundation and public agency prospects and donors.
- Provide strategic direction and creative solutions to fundraising and donor stewardship for foundation and public agency giving.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Demonstrated successful experience in securing and increasing significant foundation and public agency fundraising, preferably in higher education or other cultural organizations.
- Management experience and success in a sophisticated and complex fundraising environment.
- Interest in and ability to identify new donors and interact with foundation executives.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and donor database software.
- Ability to travel around the region and the country, as needed.
