Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety professional to lead our Health and Safety Team in the Western Isles. As a key advisor to management and staff, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and continually reviewing our Health and Safety systems, championing a safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support to clinical teams and other services on all aspects of patient, staff, contractors, and visitor safety.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a proactive and positive health and safety culture that contributes to the NHS WI Healthcare Governance roles, responsibilities, and plans.
  • Develop and gain approval for the implementation, monitoring, and reviewing of Health and Fire Safety policies, standards, procedures, strategies, and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements in relation to safe working practices and safe operations of plant, equipment, and services.
  • Conduct Fire Risk Assessments for all NHS WI premises.
  • Manage the delivery of flexible statutory Health and Safety and Fire Training.
  • Report to the Health & Safety Committee and Staff Governance Committee.

Requirements

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.

NHS Scotland is committed to reducing its full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week, with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff.
