Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our esteemed team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality care to children and young people with diabetes.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based specialist care to children, young people, and their families with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in Calderdale and Huddersfield.
  • Manage a caseload of patients and make clinical decisions on a daily basis, involving altering insulin doses, offering telephone support, and supporting school staff and other professionals.
  • Attend multidisciplinary clinics on a weekly basis and participate in regional Nursing Network meetings.
  • Support children requiring safeguarding intervention and provide continued support and information to children on pump therapy.
  • Provide structured education to families and relevant professionals involved in the care of children and young people.
  • Compile audit data and contribute to the improvement of care services.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Current NMC registration
    • Professional or clinical qualification relevant to the speciality (e.g., Children's Diabetes Modules)
    • Evidence of education to degree level
    • Willingness to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing course
  • Desirable:
    • Insulin pump therapy course
    • Safeguarding Children Level 3 training
    • Knowledge of Diabetes NICE guidance and diabetes best practice tariff
