Job Overview

We are thrilled to present an opportunity to become a part of the psychology team within the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, integrated within the broader Clinical Health Psychology framework.

We seek a motivated Psychology Assistant who is prepared to operate under supervision, conducting psychological evaluations and therapeutic interventions for individuals with neurological disorders and their families. The successful candidate will also engage in group therapy sessions. Additionally, there may be chances to educate and train fellow staff members and assist with various initiatives within the service. The post-holder will be an integral member of the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Unit and will receive encouragement and support for their personal and professional growth. This position is particularly suited for individuals aspiring to advance their careers in clinical psychology.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The selected candidate will support the Clinical Psychologist in the preparation, execution, and assessment of diverse clinical tasks and service initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting clinically supervised sessions with clients individually, which will involve neuropsychological evaluations.
  • Assisting in psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing emotional challenges alongside neurological conditions, under the guidance of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Establishing trusting and empathetic relationships with clients while effectively communicating sensitive information with clarity and compassion.
  • Aiding in the organization and facilitation of therapeutic groups as appropriate, under supervision.
  • Implementing psychological care programs as directed by the supervising clinical psychologist.
  • Evaluating intervention strategies as instructed by the supervising clinical psychologist.
  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, working closely with other health professionals such as occupational therapists, neurological rehabilitation consultants, nursing staff, physiotherapists, and speech-language therapists. This includes participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and contributing to the development of integrated care plans.
  • Managing clinical situations that may require sustained focus and may involve emotionally challenging circumstances.

Service Development

The candidate will be accountable to the service manager for issues related to clinical governance, quality assurance, and clinical risk management. They will also support service enhancement projects, including clinical governance initiatives, under the direction of the supervising psychologist.

Research and Educational Activities

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in research projects under supervision.
  • Engaging in data collection, analysis, and report generation as required.
  • Contributing to the development of clinical, educational, and organizational materials as needed.
  • Supporting the training and education of staff or clients as necessary.
  • Conducting literature reviews to assist qualified clinicians in evidence-based practices.

Professional Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for managing their workload and activities according to the guidance provided by the supervising clinical psychologist. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and updating client records in compliance with Trust and professional standards.
  • Participating in regular clinical supervision sessions.
  • Adhering to the policies of the Trust, Clinical Health Psychology Service, and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, as well as the professional guidelines set forth by the British Psychological Society.
  • Engaging in team meetings and supporting colleagues while receiving support in return.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and proper management of clinical and research records.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minimum classification of 2:2.

Essential Experience

  • Relevant paid or voluntary experience in a related field.

Desirable Experience

  • Interest or experience in working with individuals facing physical health challenges and psychological issues.
  • Training in applied psychological interventions.
  • Experience working with individuals with neurological conditions.

Professional Membership

Essential

  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS), adhering to recognized ethical standards and disciplinary procedures.
