Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our established leadership team as a Senior Nurse Practitioner. This exciting opportunity will support, lead, and direct the clinical care and operation within our Acute Inpatient Ward.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the Ward Manager to ensure that clinical priorities and standards of care are achieved. This will involve developing and implementing clinical guidelines and protocols, providing expert advice and clinical support to colleagues, and contributing to the formulation and treatment plan.

The post holder will also be responsible for evaluating specific projects and formulating reports to inform future service provision and developments. Additionally, they will monitor the effectiveness of the service, reporting outcomes against agreed service standards and performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver person-centered and trauma-informed care within the defined inpatient area.
  • Undertake comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, manage a complex cohort of service users, and provide advice and support.
  • Develop and deliver safe and effective services, in accordance with key evidence-based care, relevant accreditation schemes, national targets, clinical standards, service priorities, and performance indicators.
  • Work in partnership with commissioners, regional service colleagues, and other partner agencies to provide inpatient services that achieve the best possible outcomes for service users.
  • Provide clinical leadership and act as an expert resource and role model for the multidisciplinary team.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Specialist knowledge of Mental Health inpatient care specific to the area working in (acute, older adults, rehabilitation, and forensic services).
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, national legal frameworks, Safeguarding Adults and Children policies and procedures, Clinical Governance, and Infection Prevention and Control Procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and awareness of current evidence base relevant to the area of practice.
  • Organisational ability and time management skills, advanced clinical assessment skills, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to prioritise and problem-solve, presentation skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requirements

The successful candidate will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a non-medical prescriber qualification (or willingness to work towards until achieved). They will also have a degree-level qualification or significant equivalent demonstrable clinical experience, mentorship qualification, student mentorship training/qualification, and evidence of post-registration Continuing Professional Development.

Substantial post-registration experience, evidence of achievement in clinical practice and/or leadership within an area of speciality, working knowledge of Clinical Governance, evidence of implementing innovation and change in clinical practice, and evidence of undertaking clinical audit and/or research in clinical practice are also essential.
