About the Role
Tradebe Inutec is seeking a dedicated Radiation Safety Specialist to contribute to our team's commitment to maintaining radiological safety within our operations. This role involves providing comprehensive health physics monitoring support, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guiding project teams in safe practices.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct routine radiation and contamination surveys, adhering to established schedules and requirements for pre- and post-operational assessments.
- Provide expert health physics guidance to operational teams, analytical projects, maintenance personnel, and project management.
- Collaborate with the Radioactive Disposals, Accountancy, and Transport (RDAT) team to ensure that transport packages and vehicles comply with regulations governing the carriage of dangerous goods.
- Offer technical assistance and advice to various teams to support successful task execution.
- Perform air sampling procedures and calculate airborne contamination levels accurately.
- Establish and manage radiological supervised and controlled areas, ensuring proper classification and monitoring.
- Monitor items exiting controlled contamination areas for compliance with safety protocols.
- Assist in the categorization of out-of-scope and exempt waste materials.
- Participate in decontamination efforts as needed to maintain a safe working environment.
- Conduct leak tests on radioactive sources according to scheduled maintenance plans.
- Carry out environmental monitoring activities, including discharge sampling, to assess potential impacts.
- Maintain meticulous health physics records, including daily logs and comprehensive survey reports.
- Provide training and coaching to staff on radiological best practices, site standards, and expectations.
- Deliver radiation safety training programs, encompassing over-the-barrier training, operational monitoring, and surveyor training.
- Offer radiological support during emergency situations and exercises, ensuring preparedness and response capabilities.
- Manage the radiation monitoring instrumentation pool to guarantee the availability of calibrated and functional instruments.
- Assist with personal dose assessment arrangements for site personnel, including those working outside the facility.
About You
- Possess a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Radiation Protection or City and Guilds Stage 1 in Radiation Safety Practice.
- Demonstrate previous experience in active plant operations and proficiency in monitoring techniques.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration.
- Be proficient in computer applications to manage data and reports.
- Possess a self-motivated and results-oriented approach to work.
- Be able to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment as required.
