Primary Responsibilities

  • The Senior Geotechnical Specialist plays a vital role within the Renewable Energy Division, concentrating on the execution of extensive offshore wind initiatives.
  • This position is part of the Ground Engineering Team within the Site Engineering Department, reporting directly to the Ground Engineering Discipline Manager.
  • The selected candidate will assist the Ground Engineering Lead (GEL) during the pre-Final Investment Decision (FID) and construction phases of multiple offshore wind projects.
  • The company employs a strategic client-focused model for ground engineering services, utilizing a compact team of permanent staff with diverse specializations. The GEL leads the project, supported by external contractors and consultants. The Senior Geotechnical Specialist will leverage their technical expertise to identify and mitigate ground risks, define project scopes, oversee tendering processes, and manage survey contractors and specialized consultants.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Geotechnical Specialist, your duties will encompass:

  • Assisting the GEL in managing ground engineering risks and activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitating the scoping, tendering, and oversight of significant offshore site investigations, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Continuously identifying, monitoring, and managing ground engineering risks associated with project activities.
  • Collaborating with the GEL to determine consultancy needs for effective ground risk management, including defining scopes of work and managing consultancy packages.
  • Providing support and guidance during the design and installation phases of foundations and cables to ensure comprehensive ground risk management.
  • Communicating ground risks to key stakeholders and ensuring project surveys align with design and installation requirements through ongoing stakeholder engagement.
  • Contributing to the certification process for Ground Engineering components in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Overseeing the development of the Ground Model and effectively communicating outputs, risks, and recommendations to project teams.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with cultural sensitivity. To excel in this role, you should possess the following:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in design and installation processes for offshore wind projects.
  • Thorough understanding of offshore procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • The ability to balance technical details with commercial considerations, providing informed recommendations while assessing relevant risks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance processes and health, safety, and environmental regulations related to offshore construction projects.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to influence decision-making within a diverse team.
  • Proficient document writing skills in English, with the capability to convey complex issues in a clear manner.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and a willingness to learn additional project management software.
  • A strong adaptability to change and experience in leading teams through transitions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in planning, managing, and executing offshore site investigations for large-scale projects, including laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with various geophysical survey methods at different stages of offshore wind farm development.
  • Experience in developing geotechnical ground models, integrating geophysical data effectively.
