As a Senior Analyst, you will spearhead the execution of routine operations, consistently monitoring and analyzing market data, managing extensive datasets, and issuing new information requests to external parties. You will provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, ensuring quality control and thorough review of their outputs. Your meticulous analysis will proactively uncover evidence to evaluate the effects of retail policies and regulations on the market and consumers. Additionally, you will identify avenues to leverage analysis to inform decisions, take the lead on written outputs such as analytical reports and briefings, and manage unexpected requests related to the team’s datasets.

Engagement with both internal and external stakeholders is essential in this role. You will define and agree on the analytical contributions and evidence required for monitoring and policy purposes, ensuring timely and precise delivery of insights and analysis. If you possess experience in providing analytical input or assurance in consultancy, governmental, policy, regulatory, or energy sector projects, and have strong analytical, communication, and persuasive skills, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.

Role Responsibilities

As the UK’s energy regulator, Ofgem advocates for energy consumers to guarantee that every household and business in the UK can depend on a secure and sustainable energy supply.

In your capacity as a Senior Analyst, you will:

  • Lead daily operations to monitor and analyze market evidence, including managing large datasets and issuing information requests to third parties.
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior colleagues, serving as a resource for advice, quality assurance, and review of their work.
  • Conduct high-quality analysis and proactively identify relevant evidence to assess the impacts of retail policies and regulations on the market and consumers.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance analysis, including developing new frameworks or utilizing established ones to inform decisions.
  • Take charge of written outputs (both internal and external) such as analytical reports and briefings for senior management and regulatory decisions.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to manage specific unplanned requests related to the team’s datasets.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define and agree on necessary analytical input and evidence for monitoring and policy purposes.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including governmental departments, suppliers, and consumer organizations, to ensure timely and accurate provision of insights and analysis, as appropriate.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience in providing analytical input or assurance in consultancy, governmental, policy, regulatory, or energy sector projects that deliver benefits for consumers and society.
  • Strong ability to coordinate others and design efficient processes for information requests and routine analysis of large datasets.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to apply various analytical methods to enhance the policy development process.
  • Proficient in data management and manipulation tools to produce insightful analysis.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Good understanding of the energy sector and consumer-related issues.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as R, Python, SQL, or Power BI is advantageous.
