Position Overview

Thames Water is seeking a dedicated Lead Technical Operations Specialist to enhance our field operations and collaborate closely with teams in our operational control centre. This dynamic role will require versatility, as each day presents unique challenges and opportunities. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact within the shift team for daily escalations and will have the authority to prioritize activities with the Logistics Operational Control Centre (LOCC) and the Logistics Delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

Management of Logistics Response:
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with shift leadership roles in the operational control centre to ensure effective responses across various teams, including Clean, Waste, Customer, and Incident Management.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of waste pumping sites and the essential principles governing their operation.
  • Understand the basics of temporary pump operation and its application within waste networks and pumping operations.
  • Ensure that incident data is accurately captured by the LOCC team during incidents, including Priority Service Register customer data, bottled water deliveries, and tanker loads.
  • Develop expertise in all aspects of the LOCC Planner role to provide informed support.
  • Lead and coordinate logistics delivery during escalations and incidents.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Gain knowledge of SPS sites and the fundamental principles of their operation.
  • Understand waste networks, management challenges, and associated risks.
  • Develop skills in incident response for pollution mitigation, including flow management volumes, tanker volumes, fill and tip times, and pump operation with ancillary equipment.
  • Build knowledge of clean treatment processes and appropriate incident mitigation strategies.
  • Understand clean network assets and management strategies to support clean tankers and other supply interruption solutions.
  • Provide support during waste treatment incidents.
Collaboration and Relationship Building:
  • Foster relationships with internal networks and field managers to gain insights into local priorities and challenges.
  • Facilitate incident learning, manage complaints, and ensure effective data capture.
  • Ensure that learning and development opportunities are documented and shared following incidents.
  • Conduct prompt investigations of complaints arising from supplier or driver issues during shifts.
Work Environment and Schedule

This position is office-based. The role involves a 12-hour shift pattern of 6:30 to 6:30, including a rotation of days and nights.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in waste and/or clean field operations is preferred.
  • Proven track record in logistics field operations and leading operational delivery.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in handling and analyzing critical data.
  • Field or control operational experience is advantageous.
  • A driving license is desirable but not mandatory.
